educate and mentor others in their local
community. The programme aims to encourage
better awareness of health and fitness issues,
by, for example, introducing residents to
a range of dietary, nutritional and cardiovascular

leisure services. This initiative will help
address the health issues of coronary heart
disease and strokes (CVO), obesity, diabetes
and depressions as a result of social isolation.

Translation

local people in community translation and
interpreting advocacy. This is in line with
the local regeneration agenda which aims
for a pool of local trained translators
and interpreters. The programme will create

skills to obtain full/time, part/time, "annualised",
and/or session work in community interpretation/translation.
Participants will obtain NVQ 2/3 accreditation.
Successful participants will be assimilated

(GP practises, local hospitals, dentist,
social services etc); also they will be
part of the local council's pool of registered
translators and interpreters. Session work
opportunities will also be available in
the voluntary and community sector. The

dentists and mainstream services in accessing
trained participants into potential labour
market opportunities.

in the SRB areas within Haringey. The programme

BME groups. COTEP was designed to ensure
a co-ordinated pathway to training and employment
